UNC WILMINGTON 14, EASTERN KY. 9

    WILMINGTON NC -- UNC Wilmington (2-3) took advantage of four Eastern Ky. (0-1) errors in the second inning as it plated eight runs on it's way to a 14-9 win over the Colonels in baseball action Friday at Brooks Field.  Sophomore Stephen Grady went 4-5 on the afternoon with a double for the Seahawks while senior outfielder Mike Foucht drove in four runs on two hits including a double.  Sophomore right hander Matt McDonnell (1-1) earned the win with six innings of two-hit ball in relief of UNCW starter Chris Coughlin.  Coughlin was forced to leave the game with one out in the top of the second after being hit in the knee by a line drive off the bat of EKU's Tom White.

    EKU opened the scoring in the top of the second as sophomore catcher Mike Schneider doubled off McDonnell scoring two.

    UNCW answered with the eight run second as Colonels' starter Corey Eagle was knocked out of the box one batter after a two run double off the bat of sophomore David McPherson.

    The remained 8-2 in favor of UNCW till the top of the sixth when White scored Lee Chapman from third with a fielders choice.  The Hawks answered with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning when Foucht doubled to left scoring two.

    Eastern scored three in the seventh and three in the eighth to close to within 12-9, but Charlie Weatherby shut down the Colonels with 1.2 innings of no-hit ball, striking out three, for his first save of the season.

    Grady and freshman Matt Wright closed out the scoring with RBI's in the bottom of the eighth.

    Eagle (0-1) took the loss for EKU.  Reliever Nic Lively scattered five hits and struck out five in five innings of relief.  Schneider finished the day 2-4 with four RBI's while senior second baseman Adam Basil added two hits and two RBI's.

    The Seahawks and the Colonels wrap up their series with a double header Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
