EASTERN FIRST BASEMAN NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University senior first baseman Lee Chapman has been selected as a third-team Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American for the 2000 baseball season by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Chapman, a native of Nicholasville, was a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference choice and was also named to the All-OVC Tournament team in 1999. He was also a member of the 1999 NCAA South Region All-Star Team as chosen by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
"Lee certainly established himself in Division I baseball as an outstanding player in 1999," said EKU head baseball coach Jim Ward. "He's a guy who can hit for average, hit for power, run the bases and play his position very well."
He finished last season with a .373 batting average with a team-leading 20 home runs and 71 runs batted in. He also collected 13 doubles, four triples, 64 runs scored and 20 stolen bases.
Chapman closed the '99 season ranked second in the league in homers and RBI's, fourth in stolen bases, fifth in batting average and eighth in triples.
Eastern was 35-25 overall last season and finished third in the final OVC standings.
