RICHMOND, Ky. - Scott Santa, righthanded pitcher from Newark (OH) High School, has signed to play baseball for coach Jim Ward's Eastern Kentucky University Colonels.
Santa, 6-0, 170, was a three-year letterman in baseball at NHS for coach Joe Neff. His sophomore season he was selected as Pitcher of the Year for Newark and he followed that up by being named second-team All-Ohio Capital Conference and receiving the team's award for Top Fielder his junior year.
"Scott projects as a solid Division I pitcher whom we are confident will have an outstanding career at EKU, " Ward said.
This past season, Santa was again chosen as his high school team's Pitcher of the Year, while being selected to the honorable mention All-Central District team and to the honorable mention All-OAC squad.
The son of Karen and Steve Santa, Scott plans on majoring in business at Eastern this fall.
