RICHMOND, Ky. -- Shortstop-pitcher Matt Puckett of Clark County High School has enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University and will be a walk-on candidate for the 1999 EKU baseball team.
Puckett, the 6-0, 165-pound son of Jerry and Janice Puckett of Winchester, played his high school baseball for coach Larry Allison at Clark County. He was a three-time Varsity Pitcher of the Year, a two-time All-District player for the Cardinals and was also a pre-season all-state choice for the 1998 season.
"Matt is an excellent middle infielder with the ability to play shortstop or second base," said EKU baseball coach Jim Ward. "He also has a 'live arm' who could contribute on the mound.
"Matt is an outstanding, versatile baseball player and we are excited that he has decided to attend EKU and play baseball for the Colonels," Ward added.
Puckett, who throws and bats righthanded, compiled a 17-4 career pitching record at Clark County. He also batted .368 with two home runs and 28 runs batted in as a senior in '98.
