YOUNT TO PLAY BASEBALL FOR EKU COLONELS
 

RICHMOND, Ky. - Harlan Independent High School outfielder Jason Yount has enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University and will play baseball for the Colonels next spring.

Yount, a three-time All-County baseball and football player at Harlan, hit .396 this past season with 34 stolen bases, 32 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .504 for coach Murph Howard's Harlan squad. He was also chosen to the All-District football team his junior and senior years and made All-SEKC football honors his senior year at Harlan High.

"Jason is an outstanding athlete who has the skills to be an excellent collegiate player," said EKU head baseball coach Jim Ward. "He has good size, runs well, throws well and we are pleased he has decided to attend EKU and play baseball."

Yount, 6-2, 185, hit .300 as a junior with 30 stolen bases and 30 runs scored and batted .366 as a sophomore with 25 steals and 35 runs scored.

The son of Will and Diane Yount of Harlan, Jason will major in chemistry this fall at EKU.
