EKU's Sharp, SEMO's Debrock And EIU's Larson Earn OVC Baseball Honors
 
Eastern Kentucky third baseman Jason Sharp, who hit .700 with three doubles, three homers and eight RBI's was named the OVC Baseball Player of the Week, while Southeast Missouri's Lanson Debrock and Eastern Illinois' John Larson shared Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing complete-game, four-hit shutouts.

 OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jason Sharp, Sr., 3B, Owenton, Ky. (Eastern Kentucky)
Sharp batted .700 (7-for-10) with three doubles, three homers, five runs scored and eight RBI's as Eastern Kentucky took two of three games from Morehead State over the weekend. The senior third baseman, who is riding an eight-game hitting streak, also walked three times and didn't strike out.

 OVC PITCHERS OF THE WEEK: Lanson Debrock, Sr., RHP, Chaffee, Mo. (Southeast Missouri)
John Larson, Sr., RHP, Joliet, Ill. (Eastern Illinois) Debrock threw a complete-game four-hit shutout as Southeast Missouri defeated Middle Tennessee 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The senior struck out six over seven innings and retired the final 13 batters of the game. Larson also threw a complete-game four-hit shutout in Eastern Illinois' 10-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. The senior tied a career high with 10 strikeouts and walked just one over nine innings.

 AUSTIN PEAY: The Govs (16-19 overall, 1-8 in OVC) went 2-2 last week, posting wins over Vanderbilt and Southern Illinois. Senior second baseman Greg Troy went 7-for-12 (.583) last week with a pair of solo homers, five RBI's and six runs scored. He had at least two hits in all three games he played. Senior Lance Wampler is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak, which matches the team's longest this season. He has upped his batting average to .313. Sophomore left-hander Mike Weel improved to 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA after allowing just seven hits and an unearned run over nine innings in APSU's 9-1 victory over SIU on Saturday. He struck out six and walked three.

 EASTERN ILLINOIS: The Panthers (10-17 overall, 6-5 in OVC) rolled to a 10-0 win in Game 1 versus Tennessee Tech, but were swept in Sunday's doubleheader. Senior right-hander John Larson tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout on Saturday and matched his career high with 10 strikeouts. Larson, who logged his 12th career complete game, set an EIU record for career appearances (71) and moved to 3rd in career strikeouts. Senior first baseman Matt Marzec belted a three-run homer on Saturday to tie EIU's career homer record with 36. Marzec's on a 12-game hitting streak and is now batting .375. Second baseman Josh Landon hit .474 last week. Lefty pitcher Nick Albu had his streak of 14 consecutive innings without an earned run snapped.

 EASTERN KENTUCKY: The Colonels (15-16 overall, 10-2 in OVC) won their 4th straight OVC series, taking two of three at Morehead State to remain atop the OVC standings by 1.5 games. Senior third baseman Jason Sharp batted .700 (7-for-10) over the weekend with three doubles, three homers, five runs scored and eight RBI's. Sharp is on an eight-game hitting streak. EKU pounded out 40 hits in the three-game series, including 10 home runs. Sophomore pitcher Chip Albright improved to 5-2 with a win on Saturday. It was a rough weekend overall for the Colonels' pitching staff, which allowed 43 hits and 24 earned runs.

 MIDDLE TENNESSEE: The Blue Raiders (17-16 overall, 5-3 in OVC) dropped three games by a total of four runs before pulling out an 8-5 win at Southeast Missouri on Sunday. Middle Tennessee's pitching staff gave up just seven total runs in the three losses. Senior right-hander Jamie Powers gave up just two hits and one earned run over seven innings in a 2-1 loss to Tennessee on Tuesday, and then got his first career save on Sunday by working out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth. Catcher Josh Pride (3-for-5), outfielder Bryan Peck (4-for-5) and third baseman Brandon Johnson (2-for-4) accounted for nine of the team's 12 hits and seven of the eight runs in Sunday's win. Pride and Peck both homered in the game. Pitcher Jeff Parsons threw a two-hitter, but suffered a 2-0 loss in Game 2 at SEMO.

 MOREHEAD STATE: The Eagles (14-15-1 overall, 2-7 in OVC) salvaged the final game of their series with first-place Eastern Kentucky, rallying for an 8-6 win on Sunday afternoon. Morehead State batted .394 (43-of-109) as a team against EKU, but the pitching staff allowed 32 earned runs in the three games. Senior third baseman Mike Reichert went 6-for-12 versus EKU, upping his team-leading average to .422. He's on a 14-game hitting streak. Outfielder Jason Kennedy has hit in six straight games since having his 30-game hitting streak snapped on March 29. Senior shortstop Sam Hoehner batted .533 with four runs scored and four RBI's against EKU. He also stole three bases and now leads the league in that catgeory with 17 thefts in 18 attempts. He is four steals shy of the MSU career mark of 47.

 MURRAY STATE: The Breds (14-17 overall, 8-3 in OVC) moved within 1.5 games of first-place Eastern Kentucky after a three-game sweep of Tennessee-Martin over the weekend. Murray State, which has won four straight and 11 of its last 14, is unbeaten at home this season in conference play. Senior shortstop Chris Johnson batted .500 with two doubles, a homer, five runs scored and seven RBI's last week. He also stole three bases and was perfect in 19 fielding chances. Senior pitcher Jason Glosser saved two games last week, including striking out the side in the 7th against UTM on Sunday. MSU batted .353 as a team last week with 12 doubles, two triples and three homers in four games. They averaged 9.3 runs per game. MSU had fans sign a get-well card for UTM head coach Bubba Cates over the weekend.

 SOUTHEAST MISSOURI: The Indians (20-8 overall, 6-2 in OVC) continued to get outstanding pitching and won two of three in a key series with Middle Tennessee over the weekend. Senior Dan Huesgen and junior Jeffrey Hilz combined on an eight-hitter in a 3-2 victory in Game 1, and then senior right-hander Lanson Debrock completed the sweep by tossing a complete-game four-hit shutout as Southeast won the nightcap 2-0. Debrock retired the last 13 batters he faced and improved to 6-3. In Game 1, second baseman Clemente Bonilla got the game-winning run in the eighth after scoring from second on an infield single by Jeremy Johnson. In Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Blue Raiders, outfielder Charlie Marino went 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBI's, while third baseman Denver Stuckey went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

 TENNESSEE-MARTIN: The Skyhawks (7-25 overall, 0-8 in OVC) returned to action for the first time since a March 28 van accident that injured coach Bubba Cates and nine players, but were swept in a three-game series at Murray State. UTM built a 3-0 lead in the first game, but saw the Breds rally for seven runs in the seventh to take a 9-5 decision. Senior pitcher Billy Holt, who is the only injured player to return to action thus far, started Game 2 of the series and pitching into the 6th inning. Ace pitcher Heath Doyle threw Game 1 of the series and then made his first starts in center field on Sunday. Doyle went 3-for-6 with a triple in his first plate appearances of the year. UTM will play at home this weekend for the first time since March 26, facing Southeast Missouri.

 TENNESSEE TECH: The Golden Eagles (15-15 overall, 4-4 in OVC) went 3-2 during a tough stretch of road games last week, including taking two of three at Eastern Illinois. Junior Mike Fessler, who had only seen action as a pitcher this season, got his first start of the year in right field on Sunday and became the first Tech to ever hit for the cycle. Fessler tripled in his first official at-bat of the year, homered in his next at-bat and then doubled and singled. He finished the day 4-for-4 with six RBI's as Tech rolled to an 11-4 win in the first game of the doubleheader. Sophomore Mike Meihls batted .429 last week with a homer, three RBI's and four runs scored. He went 4-for-5 in Sunday's doubleheader sweep at EIU. Sophomore pitcher David Grigsby picked up a win and a save last week after allowing just four hits and no runs in 6.2 innings of work. With 18 doubles, outfielder Matt Curtis is just four shy of the Tech season record.
