COLONEL BASEBALL TEAM HOSTS WILDCATS WEDNESDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Jim Ward's Eastern Kentucky University baseball Colonels, winners of three of their last four contests, will host the University of Kentucky Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at EKU's Turkey Hughes Field.

Eastern, 5-9 overall, is coming off a 12-1 defeat of IUPUI Monday, while Kentucky, 17-2 on the season and ranked 20th this week by Collegiate Baseball, lost two of three games over the weekend to No. 7-ranked Alabama and defeated LMU, 10-4, Tuesday.

EKU will go with sophomore righthander Chip Albright who is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA against UK.

Senior second baseman Adam Basil is EKU's top hitter, batting .619 with one home run and 14 runs batted in. Junior rightfielder Gabe Thomas is next at .378 with one homer and eight RBI's. Other .300 hitters for the Colonels include sophomore shortstop Kiley Vaughn, .351; freshman designated hitter Mike Brown and sophomore infielder Chris Frailly, .333 each; and senior first baseman Lee Chapman, .309 with three home runs and 21 RBI's.

Eastern opens Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend by hosting Austin Peay in a three-game set, which includes a noon doubleheader Saturday and a 1:00 p.m. single game Sunday.
