DeLAND - Jason Oglesby scattered 10 hits over six innings and Stetson's defense threw out three Eastern Kentucky runners at home as the Hatters downed the Colonels 5-3, Friday at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
A senior from Deltona, Oglesby (3-0) surrendered three runs and struck out two as he won his third consecutive start for Stetson (12-3). The win was the fourth straight for Stetson. Eastern Kentucky falls to 2-6.
Stetson leftfielder Frank Corr enjoyed an outstanding all-round game, going 2-4, including his fifth home run, and threw out two runners at home.
Corr's solo blast off EKU starter Corey Eagle (1-2) put Stetson up 1-0 in the first and the Hatters tacked on another run on Mike Fellman's RBI grounder.
Eastern tied the game with a pair of runs in the third, but could have had more if not for a great throw to the plate by Corr. With one out, Brad Sizemore singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kiley Vaughn then singled to left and Corr promptly threw out Sizemore at home. Adam Basil doubled in Vaughn and Chapman followed with a run-scoring double of his own, tying the game at two.
Stetson came back with a pair of runs in the fourth on Josh Laws' RBI triple and a run scoring single by Fellman.
The Colonels closed the gap with a run in the sixth, but the Hatters got it right back on Lee Bagley's pinch-hit single in the eighth.
Chris Rogers worked the final three innings for Stetson to earn his second save. Laws was 3-3 to lead Stetson's 14-hit attack.
The Hatters will try for the series sweep when Stetson and EKU play game three, 2:00 p.m., Saturday.
